Artisan Bird Nester

Our beautiful bird gift box contains our brand new handmade stunning Fair Trade Artisan Bird Nester, handmade to the highest quality using natural seagrass and recycled saris. Each artisan chooses the colourful recycled sari pattern making every nester different.

The Artisan Bird Nester is oval in shape offering a medium-sized cavity perfect for small garden bird species which roost alone or in a pair. Offering a cosy place to roost during harsh winter months, plus in springtime, small birds may use this Fair Trade product as a nest.

The Fair Trade Bird Nester has a sturdy inner frame for support. Attached metal hooks at the rear and a long loop at the top to ensure you can fasten the nester securely. As a result, this makes it easier to site the nester in the natural leaf cover and vegetation of ivy, bushes, trees or hedges. The nester has a small round entrance reinforced with steel. It is also slightly protruding to make it easy for birds to land and perch on.

You’ll be helping garden birds find a safe place to roost and nest in their gardens and outdoor spaces, as well as supporting the Artisan workers in Southern Bangladesh who make them - funding the survival of many women and their families from rural communities in desperate poverty.

Siting

Position the bird nester in a sheltered space to keep out harsh weather. Preferably face the bird nester between North and South-East. A warm, protected roosting space out of the prevailing wind can be a lifesaver for small birds during cold, harsh weather conditions.

Seed Paper Flowers

The bundle also contains 5 x multicoloured flower wildflower seed paper shapes presented in a natural hessian linen gift bag with planting instructions.

They are handmade in the UK using 100% biodegradable and tree-free premium cotton paper embedded with British native wildflower seeds.

Our paper shapes are made using residual cotton from the textile industry, making them highly sustainable and eco-friendly. The cotton paper has a rustic finish, which offers a much higher growth success rate as it is air dried which gives the seeds their best chance of germinating. A lovely way to grow colourful nectar-rich wildflowers that attract and feed butterflies.

Planting Instructions.

Place your seed paper shapes into a pot with peat-free compost that is slightly compressed, but not too hard-packed. Cover lightly with more peat-free compost and water well. Place in a sunny warm spot and make sure the soil is always moist to allow the seeds to germinate. When the seedlings have established, transfer into an outdoor planter or directly into the garden soil. For best results, plant in Spring or Autumn.
